Brasenose

Solemn Tridentine High Mass Oxford OratoryI don’t know whether to call this a fruit of Summorum pontificum, but in any case, it’s a very good thing for the students in Oxford:

It has been announced that the Newman Society Termly Mass will take place on Monday 19th November at 6pm in Brasenose College Chapel. This will be a Traditional Solemn High Mass, so this is quite something. Fr. Dominic Jacob will be the celebrant.

I look forward to seeing the pictures.

    Josephus,

Do you agree with the following statement:

“Once you have read Augustine in Latin, reading him in English is like listening to Mozart on a kazoo.”

I would say that once you’ve read him in Latin, you wouldn’t want to go back to the English translation - having read the Latin, you’ll realize how much you’re missing even in a good translation. Word plays, even things like alliteration.

Word plays? Alliteration? Do I detect Fred Ahl’s influence? Pretty soon you’ll detect some scurrilous anti-Roman, pro-Carthaginian subversion there too! :)
