Chesterton and a Missa Cantanta, Nov. 4

Another great event for those of you in NYC. Brought to you by the Society of St. Hugh of Cluny:

Dr. John “Chuck” Chalberg has delighted audiences across the United States with his impersonations of American and British characters. The Society of St. Hugh of Cluny is pleased to host Dr. Chalberg portraying G. K. Chesterton in a one-man show.

Sunday, November 4 at 4:30 pm at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 230 E. 90th Street, Manhatten.

The show will be followed by a Traditional Latin Missa Cantata in the church at 6:00 pm.

Dr. Chalberg has been performing as Chesterton for 10 years, in the United States, as well as in Canada and Hungary.

He has appeared as Chesterton at many American colleges including Notre Dame, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Gonzaga, and Hillsdale.

Brian Clayton of the Gonzaga University philosophy department has commented that Chalberg’s performance has encouraged people to read or re-read Chesterton because his “characterization makes so clear how relevant and timlely Chesterton’s thought is.”

Upon seeing Chesterton, Dr. Michael Jordan, an English professor at Hillsdale College, claimed that “Chalberg’s speech, his gestures, his dress, and his comments [are] true to form. My response to the presentation was the same as the rest of the audience: we gave him a standing ovation.”

The Society of St. Hugh was also all over the Martin Mosebach business. It seems like they’re doing what they can to get things rolling post-Summorum pontificum. I applaud there efforts. We’d love to see pictures from or have reports of any of these events.

From what I hear, plans have been changed and it will be a *Solemn* Mass.

Mr. Chessman tells me that it’s still going to be a Missa cantata.

Yes, they have gone back to a Sung Mass. They could not get another priest to be the Deacon. So, it is going to be a Sung Mass now.
