This is potentially interesting. The USCCB (which gives one pause, I admit) has commissioned a film, “Fishers of Men,” to promote priestly vocations. The trailer is a bit over the top, but in sort of a good way. The title of this post is a quote from the trailer (which is in turn a paraphrase of the late Cardinal O’Connor). The picture is a screen cap from the trailer. Anyway the trailer can be found here (warning Quicktime Video link).

Great trailer, very inspiring to anyone who could be wrestling with the idea of becoming a priest. “You have to be a real man, if you want to become a priest” says it all. Good to see an alternative to the usual run of the mill.
Words are great, but actions are better. The person quoted oversaw scores of sodomite priests go through his seminaries to molest boys and young men for decades.
I hope the church is doing a better job finding “real men,” and I think ads like this one can help in spite of some church leaders who want the status quo.
Yeah, that’s a cool trailer. It all seemed pretty exciting with that dramatic music in the background, though many of the things depicted were hardly on the heart-thrilling kind: a long line of Novus Ordo priests, giving a feeble bow at the altar or Cardinal Egan ordaining a man. Pretty much anything with Cardinal Egan in it would turn me cold. :)
This Video trailer is as inspiring as it is refreshing. A new Look into the future of Catholic media. Obediance to the call of “spreading the good word”
Did anybody catch the reading from Maccabes earlier this week?
“Therefore, by manfully giving up my life now, I will prove myself worthy of my old age, and I will leave to the young a noble example of how to die willingly and generously for the revered and holy laws.””
-2 Mc 6
We can’t forget that the majority of Priest in this country (99%) are doing the right thing. Do you think for one minute that “sexual abuse” hasn’t been apart of every other organization in this counrty. Do you think the Jews, Muslims, Evangelical Christians, and Boyscouts have not had there problems in the past. Some bad guys got in, and now its time to clean house.
I thought the trailer was very well done, and I am looking foward to seeing the full film. Does anyone know when and where I could get a copy?
After seeing the trailer “Fishers of Men”. I began to feel the strength of the Church. Of course it was always there, it’s just this Film brings it into the light.

I came across the trailer yesterday and have emailed the link to scores of people since.
When young sons of mine come back from World Youth Day and rave about a vocations video (which they did about this one: http://www.vocation.com/content-ajd.htm# ) then it says something about the power of the medium to convey a strong no-holds-barred vocations message. “You have to be a real man”. Ain’t that the truth.
Great to find your blog! It’s nearly 6 years since I visited Cornell Uni and it’s pleasing to see that it’s still producing quality stuff!
Glad that you enjoyed the blog, Venerable Aussie. What brought you through Cornell six years ago?
Venerable Aussie,
I think I know the vocation video your talking about, its the one about the Eucharistic Procession in New York City? Its done by the same company that is making the “Fishers of Men” video. I highly recommend taking a look at their web site

well worth it.

I love this trailer! One of my friends is in it too (the priest who runs from the car) - he’s a CFR and he’s wonderful! I hope this inspires so many of our great men to follow God’s call!!
