Nothing looks more insanely silly than a little papal head in a huge pointy hat. When I heard the pope was to be the celebrant, I decided to go hoping for a high Roman liturgy in Latin. I was disappointed.<BR/><BR/>It was very Marini-esque. Vespers was (apparently) conducted according to the principle that prayer is better when it is constantly being interrupted by commentary. Brilliant idea.<BR/><BR/>We had an explanation of the psalm before each psalm. We had 'psalm prayers' after each psalm. The psalms and readings were in the vernacular. The music style was a broken combination of Gregorian chant and high renaissance polyphony. (people: "A-men." choir: "amen amen amen amen amen amen amen"). He was quite sure of it. His selection as head of liturgies was another instance of John Paul's gay-dar failing to work at all.
